Our expertise lies in monitoring, mitigating, and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, helping organizations navigate the complexities of carbon footprints, supply chain emissions, and net-zero commitments. Whether you’re just beginning your sustainability journey or looking to refine your strategy, we provide data-driven, actionable solutions that turn climate goals into measurable progress.

Meet Dr. Usha Pillai

Founder & Principal Consultant

At the helm of New Sky is Dr. Usha Pillai, an engineer, entrepreneur, and sustainability expert who brings a unique, multidimensional perspective to climate consulting.

After earning her Doctorate in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, Usha spent years in cutting-edge research at IBM and StorageTek (now Oracle), pioneering advancements in data storage and digital communications. She then transitioned into entrepreneurship, launching companies specializing in language processing and artificial intelligence (AI). However, as she witnessed the immense energy demands of AI model training, she pivoted towards sustainability—a decision that has reshaped her career and mission.

Recognizing the urgent need for Scope 3 emissions expertise — where the majority of a company’s climate impact lies — Usha founded New Sky in 2023, focusing on:

  • Product Carbon Footprints – Measuring the environmental impact of goods and services.
  • Scope 3 & Supply Chain Emissions – Addressing climate impact beyond direct operations.
  • Circularity & Net-Zero Strategies – Embedding sustainability into product design and supply chains.

“Usha is a highly-skilled and knowledgeable person who is also thorough, attentive to detail, organized, and dependable. She showed tremendous initiative and interest in the Plastics & Climate Project, a two-year research effort that I co-founded and direct. She reached out to offer her help on a volunteer basis, and her work was so exceptional and helpful that we hired her. Not only do I have total confidence in her work, but I highly value her ability to see beyond the immediate, detail-oriented task. She asks questions and offers insights and suggestions that benefit the larger Project.”
